Dimitrios graduated from the Aristotle’s School of Medicine in Greece with honours and then joined the Special Armed Forces where he received further military training as a doctor of airborne and special task units. He gained invaluable experience in trauma surgery and the management of athletic injuries. He is second lieutenant in reserve.

He then moved to London where he completed his basic surgical training in London. He successfully completed a Master’s degree in surgical sciences at the Imperial College in London. His higher specialist training was in the St Thomas’s, Guy’s and King’s Hospitals and following successful completion of the FRCS exams, moved to Boston where he obtained further experience at the Harvard Shoulder Institute at the Massachusetts General Hospital under the supervision of JJP Warner and Prof B Zarins.

In 2009 he was appointed as a Consultant at the Maidstone Hospital in Kent and two years later he moved to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Greenwich which has a very busy Trauma service. He is the Trauma Lead and takes an active part in the training of the higher orthopaedic trainees in the South East Thames rotation.

Dimitrios treats a large number of trauma cases of the shoulder, elbow and hand. He also provides treatment to patients with sports injuries and athletes from the local rugby clubs. He provides minimally invasive treatment in shoulder, elbow and wrist injuries as well as open surgical treatment when necessary. He also has an interest in shoulder arthroplasty in patients with arthritis or shoulder trauma.

Dimitrios strongly believes in tailoring treatment to meet the needs of individual patients helping them to return to their usual activities as early as possible. He collects and keeps outcome data of his surgical cases. He closely liaises with physiotherapists to ensure faster and complete rehabilitation.

He is a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, and the International Wrist Arthroscopy Society. He is also a former member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He participates as a member of faculty in many local and international scientific meetings where he presents his work and provides hands on training to orthopaedic trainees.
